What is Food Design?
I don't have the answer, as I think this is a very difficult question, as difficult as 'What is Design?' Everyone has a different opinion on what Food Design is, as everyone's background is different. Designers usually think it means 'packaging design'. Others think it means cooking, decorating, flavouring or creating something.
I think that none of these definitions is correct or completely wrong. The clue for a truthful definition is to remember that Food Design is probably THE most interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary/multidisciplinary discipline of all.
My personal contribution would be trying to make the definition of Food Design more 'manageable', dividing it into subcategories: Design with Food, Food Product Design, Design for Food, Design about Food, Interior Design for Food, Dish Design and Eating Design.
Here are a few examples of Food Design randomply chosen from the different subcategories.
