What is meaningful food? In this performance I shared some of the most emotional meaningful food stories collected for the project In Search of Meaningful Food. during this evening I also shared my own meaningful food: carote al latte. Finally I asked participants: what is your most meaningful food? I asked them to write it on the Travelling Memories Cloth, a special 5 meters long Memories’ Cloth.
Exhibited at the art gallery Oltredimore (Bologna, Italy).

Nov 15: What is Food Design?
Nov 29: In Search of Meaningful Food. Interactive Talk
In Search of Meaningful Food is a reflection on the meanings attributed to food products, and therefore, the personal, and impossible to foresee, relationship between people and food products during and after consumption. Food products are designed with a specific function, and to elicit certain emotions. But what happens really when people buy and use these products? A range of uses and contexts are applied to the food product and many unpredictable meanings are applied to it, creating emotional memories that often follow people throughout their life. In Search of Meaningful Food is about those memories and those meanings, showcasing the connection or discrepancies between design intentions, and how food products are actually lived.
During the Interactive Talk the audience listened to the stories of meaningful food while eating themselves the very food described in the story. Trough the stimulation of all senses, the audience was transported into the intimate and personal journey of the person narrating her story. Through this process, the audience connected to the strangers in the videos, and suddenly what was an intimate memory became a shared experience.
This is a sneak peek into the wonderful world of meaningful food.
